The Soundtrack To Your Weekend

4th October 2013 | Posted in Music

Happy weekend you lovely lot. As usual, we're back, (you just can't get rid of us you know), with another lovely list of top tracks. This week, we've got a proper mixed bag; a pick n mix of music if you like.

We've got the music equivalent of a never ending gobstopper from Drake, strawberry laces from Breach and a massive block of chilled out fudge from The XX. That has to be one of the worst analogies ever made. One it's making us hungry, and two, Drake would probably flip if he ever knew we compared his music as a gobstopper. It's just so good and never ends? Let's all just be grateful that he'll probably never see this. Anyway, we digress...

Expect the unexpected- we've got some real bangers in here, from a few unexpected sources, as well as some new music from up and coming artists, and some perfectly chilled weekend tracks.

One quick note before we get stuck into this feast of musical goodness- we've changed our layout. We've now got a real Youtube playlist (WOWZERS), so if you want to get the chat on what track's what- take a look below. SO, here goes...

1) DOPRAH-Do I Wanna Know (Arctic Monkeys Cover) Yeah, we know. An oddly chilled start, right? DOPRAH are a fresh faced New Zealand duo- they've given their trippy, relaxed approach to their music to Arctic Monkeys absolute smasher, Do I Wanna Know- and, it's fair to say they've done a ruddy good job. Full marks there then.

2) Drake- Pound Cake ft. Jay-Z Mister Drizzy Drake, our gobstopper analogy friend. Taken from his recent album release (If you haven't heard about it, read our review here, it's absolutely amazing), Pound Cake features another hip hop legend, Jay-Z. Looks like a winning combination on paper. Sounds like a winning combination on the track.

3) Storm Queen-Look Right Through (MK Remix) This cheeky track has been knocking about for a while, but it's only recently started to get the attention it deserves. Coupled up with a pretty fun video, it's one of those Saturday night dance floor killers, so expect to here it where ever you're headed. Provided the DJ isn't stuck in, I don't know... a cave.

4) Julio Bashmore- Au SeveNice little track this. Made by Mr Bashmore (sounds like a ridiculously absurd American wrestler), it's got all the credentials to keep any Summer vibes you're dragging from August (it's time to let go) pretty much alive.

5)Western Disco- The Sun (Black Box Remix) We've got an awful lot of time for this. If it doesn't put a smile on your face then what will?! There's not much more to add. just enjoy it, it's damn good. WOOOO.

6)The XX- Angels (Bodhi Remix) Wow. Change of tone there. We're keeping that chilled out early Autumn vibe going with this handy little remix of The XX. It's rather lovely. We're saying early Autumn vibes- we just want a pool and some cold beers right now. DAMN.

7)Breach- Everything You Never Had (We Had It All) ft. Andreya Triana Snap back to reality and out of that little lull we just pulled you in (sorry about that). Remember Breach and there last track about some chap called Jack? Or was it make you Jack? Is Jack a thing? Whatever. This is much more straight forward. Thank god.

8)Drake- All Me ft 2 Chainz & Big Sean Drake's back. He's everywhere at the minute, and quite rightly so. Be warned, this has some choice words in it- NAUGHTY DRAKE. Oh well. The gobstopper comparison is seeming more relevant with this, we told you he just doesn't stop getting better.

9)B.OB.-Head Band ft. 2 Chainz Mr B.O.B (we like to call him Bob) has teamed up with Mr 2 Chainz (that's chains, with a 'z'), and dropped this in the Summer. Sadly, we've only just got wind of it, and for some reason we absolutely love it. Maybe it's the whistling, because it's certainly not the random video. 2 Chainz makes it known that 'His chain hang low to his ding a ling'. Bloody hell... and not in a good way.

10)Ben Pearce- What I Might Do Back on a chilled out house vibe, this track has got an awful lot to offer. Some distinctive vocals, a cracking beat, it's perfect if you're getting ready for a weekend of... well. Anything? It's that good.

11) Mac Miller- Day One (A Song About Nothing) We're on this rap thing like mad. Bob and gobstopper Drake, now Mac Miller with this chilled version of Day One. Softly softly, it's typical Mac, just with a relaxed feel. We love it for Saturday nights that turn into Sunday mornings, you know. The ones that get so trippy you have no idea what's happened. Super cool.

12) Gold Panda-Marriage (Star Slinger Remix) This playlist has slowly turned into some kind of genre roller coaster- and it's about to hit a 30 ft. drop with this track. It's not going to be to everyone's liking, but you can't deny that's it not pretty damn life affirming.

13) Metronomy-The Look (King Krule Remix) Here we go. Time to calm down. Reel it in. Sit back, take off your shoes and relax. London kid King Krule has laid his incredibly talented hands on a Metronomy track that was pretty damn decent in the first place, giving it a chilled dub step feel that you can do pretty much anything with. Perfect.

So there you have it, all done for another week. We hope you get into this list, it's a decent mix of everything your weekend should be, lively, chilled, ever so slightly gangster? That's a joke. Stay safe out there everyone. Oh, and if you're Drake, sorry we referred to you as a gobstopper. Please don't sue us.
