The Soundtrack To Your Weekend

25th July 2013 | Posted in Music
Whether you've got a big weekend on the cards or not, there's not a song on this blog that you should miss over the next few days. Seriously. Listen to every single one. They're all fantastic and Summery in their own little way, but be careful, a few of them have some pretty naughty swears in them, so if you like your music clean as a whistle, steer clear of A$AP Rocky near the bottom... Scroll further down and you'll find a few little gems to get you through a dreary Sunday, whether you're battling the hangover from doom or not- these cheeky little chaps will make you smile and forget all about the impending M word...

Saturday's in the sun

It'll not be long before the whole repitition of 'Shake, shake, shake...' and then a reel of cities around the world becomes incredibly tedious, but until then, you've got to love Tinie Tempah's new one. Let's face it, it's going to be played everywhere, all the time. There's no avoiding it, embrace it. It is pretty catchy after all. Lana Del Rey- not the kind of artist you think would get mixed up by a house DJ, but hey, stranger things have happened. One Direction for example. We loved 'Summer Time Sadness' when it first came out, but admittedly, it is kind of morbid. This then, gives it a good hard kick up the backside and shoves a proper banging Summery beat down its throat. Maybe this is a bit of a guilty pleasure, but we don't care- when the suns out and the windows are down, it's just way too good to ignore. Whilst we're on the subject of guilty pleasures... who could let this one go?! If you're like us and had a bit of a thing for The Great Gatsby, you'll recognise this track from one of the epic party scenes. We love how Will.I.Am manages to mash up the old and new, giving swing a vibe that wouldn't go amiss on the dancefloor this weekend. Someone should dare Mr Harris to try and do something wrong. To be honest, we don't think he could, even if he tried, he's dating Rita Ora for god's sake. His latest track is the perfect chilled out Summer dance track. Bang it on if you're having a BBQ, or getting ready for a big night out. It's just ridiculously good. We've never even heard of Le Youth before this, but their new track's called Cool, so what could go wrong? It's a pretty impressive start for the LA group. Yeah, that's right, they're not even French. This is a proper Summer tune, and samples Cassie's Me & You. It's an absolute winner. We always knew the Weeknd was a little bit mental- and this video probably sums that point up. Once you get past the random introduction, there's no denying that this is set to be a huge tune. Chilled out enough to relax you, but not put you to sleep, it's a much needed change of pace from all this dancey stuff that's floating around at the minute. Speaking of getting away from dancey stuff- this song has kind of escalated from being good to being ridiculously amazing since Mr Chow played it from his Caesar's Palace balcony in Vegas during the Hangover 3. It's basically a massive house party tune. Sure to cause a few issues, but hey. What do you expect? It's got Drake, A$AP Rocky, Kendrick Lamar and 2 Chainz in. In the Hangover 3, Mr Chow plays this full blast in his penthouse suite sorrounded by prostitutes, gold bars, drugs and strobe lighting-this is basically the soundtrack to his night. If that's not a recipe for a lurid tune that's going to offend everyone over the age of 28, then what is?

Chilled out Sunday

Saturday over? You'll need these to help you chill out on an easy Sunday, or cure that horrendous hangover... was it worth it last night by the way? Of course it bloody was. Sometimes you can't beat a bit of Drizzy- and this new one with vocalist Sampha is one of those rare Drake tunes that has an easy chilled out vibe. It's pretty sharp and retro too, thanks to Drakes ever right lyrics: "We said no strings attached and i still got tied up in that". Must be hard being Drake... Here's one we haven't heard for a while. We love Bombay Bicycle Club (if you ever get the chance to see them, please, oh please, go, you will just love it), and this acoustic version of 'Ivy & Gold' is a pretty cheery listen. Perfect if you're getting busy feeling sorry for yourself. Oh, the video's pretty funny too. If you can guess where this guy's from we'll give you five Masdings.com points. Clue: it's not hard. Anyway, you might not believe your ears, because this kids voice is well... amazing. Have a listen, zone out and enjoy something completely different. You can always rely on the XX to give you some guitar strumming led chilled out loveliness for your Sunday. Their latest one, Fiction, is no different to anything they've done before. But, why fix something that isn't broken? It'd just be a waste of time. So, although the lyrics are slightly depressing, this is a beautifully chilled tune. Tip: if you're going through a break up, whatever you do, don't listen to this.
