Love Them or Hate Them: Birkenstocks Are Back

3rd June 2016 | Posted in Womens & Footwear by H. Simpson

Love them or hate them, BIRKENSTOCKS are back! Those chunky, double strapped sandals are a distinctive piece of footwear with their soft, cork footbed and large branded buckle fasteners, and are often seen sported on many feet during the summer period. Four of the most popular styles are the Arizona, Mayari, Gizeh and Madrid; each with alternatively positioned straps and formed in a range of attractive colours.

The multitude of colours range from classic 'go-with-everything' shades or new to the 'SS'16 season; pastel pink and metallic copper. Pair with a simple yet pretty summer dress or choose to team with smart tailoring to add an edgy, 'out-there' look. Choosing a black pair is a safe option for versatility and can be teamed with any colour of outfit whilst keeping that classic, understated style.

Glamour named Birkenstocks the shoe of the summer in 2013 and it really was just that! The practical footwear was spotted on many influential individuals in the fashion world and thus led to various fashion houses creating their own Birkenstock-shaped shoes. This led to an influx of purchases and so a trend was (re)born!

The fact that the Birkenstocks were deemed 'ugly' in years prior to this, just goes to show that fashionistas have taken 'the shoe that nobody wants' to create a turn-around cool trend. The arch-support, soft cork footbed, leather composition and the fact that the insole moulds to your own foot shape during constant wear are just some of the factors why people become long-time Birkenstock fans!
