Finding that perfect winter coat can be hard. Your going to be wearing it all season and potentially next year too! Sometimes it all depends on your style as well, whether it be girly, country, casual or smart. Here are a hand-picked list of the top 10 coats we have in at the minute, all of which are different styles, lengths, colours and fits. Take your pick...

If your wanting something a little different, check out this Wicked coat by Religion. Renowned for creating fashionable garments that are anything but basic, Religion have created a twist on the standard thick winter coat with the slanted fastener detail. Made with a very large collar, the coat will keep you warm as well as looking smart. Hidden discreetly inside the coat is a long zip fastener therefore leaving the option of the front of the coat to be left hung open with a slouchy effect. Religion Flint Wicked Coat

This is the ultimate smart coat if ever there was one and who better to count on than trusty Ted Baker. The rich deep red along with the cut of the coat are what make the jacket stylish and classy. This is one coat that will remain a classic in the wardrobe to wear year after year. The thick material of the coat ensures it won't become tatty or bobbly after lots of use and the even though the coat is flared at the bottom, the simple tie can do wonders to the waistline to create a cinched in look. Barbour are obviously the go to brand when it comes to wanting a waxed, sturdy jacket. If you don't know much about waxed jackets, they basically last for years and years (obviously they need re-waxing after a while) and can survive many conditions and situations than a normal coat such as being thornproof (yes that's right, the wax protects the coat). There are actually some people that still have their Barbour waxed jackets from twenty somewhat years ago (vintage!) This one I've picked is a pretty version, check out the floral lining which enables you to turn up the cuffs and create a feminine feel on an otherwise masculine inspired wax jacket. The deep olive colour of the coat also creates a really cool clash with the floral feel which somehow works and looks really effective. Barbour Printed Beadnell Wax Jacket

The The shiny rose gold colour of the zip, drawstring and button fasteners against the backdrop of the black really stands out well. Though the coat is long, it can still be cinched in at the waist enabling it to be more clingy and warm and a more flattering shape. One of the nicest touches about Ted Baker garments are the tiny added details that are often hidden such as the Ted Baker branding on the buttons, the metal chained diamanté bow on the inside of the collar and the floral lining inside the coat make it that much more special. Thick, soft and cream with fur. Just the thought of this coat sounds extravagant, and extravagant is just what this coat is, especially with the satin lining. The fur touch is on trend as its again going to be big this winter and the large buttons give the coat some added character. This has French Connection written all over it (not literally); simple yet classy. This would be great worn to a special occasion or when wanting to look smarter than the casual everyday look. Peplum style garments have been very popular this year, in fact they've been a massive trend. Due to the style, the Peplum is very flattering on the waist, cinching in tight but being flared at the bottom where unwanted bloated stomachs lie. Ted Baker have a few Peplum styled items at the minute, for instance the Ohavia Peplum Detail Sweater. This coat can also be regarded as a classic as the coat is a smart, finely cut piece that can definitely be worn year in, year out. As its black, it can be matched with any outfit and in my opinion, black is one of the classiest colours that never looks tatty or is not 'in'. Ted Baker Black Sollel Peplum Detail Short Coat

Out of all the Parkas we have had this season, this and the Barbour Kelsall Winter Parka remain my favourites. This is a heavy coat due to the lining which can actually be detached to create a more lightweight coat for the more warmer days. The lining is a warm, woolly material that will ensure total warmth. The outside of the jacket has a certain distressed effect as though its been worn which gives a really nice authentic, 'vintagy' feel which is great for a Parka, especially as they're associated with being quite indie and grungy. This isn't to everyone's taste, but it does have a huge cool factor about it. A tweed design, the jacket offers a total 'countryside' look and has an added bonus in that it has a waterproof finish so the fabric wouldn't get soaking if you got caught in the rain and the hood can actually be taken off when needed. The jacket reminds me of a former Burberry collection which focused totally on traditionally British looks that were more high end than union jack tack. Its not surprising that Barbour have started bringing out collections such as these and the Nutwell Blazer as they're a totally British company which back in the day, were once favoured by Yorkshiremen. Bring a wider range of these out I say! Pair these with a pair of Hunters for a quintessential British country feel. Barbour Olive Dentdale Jacket

The Windcheater jackets are very popular and there are a wide range of colours to choose from depending on the preference of coloured stitching. This new colour is my favourite; though titled 'charcoal', its a really nice shade of blue mixed with a grey. The Windcheaters prove a popular choice as they are a casual style of jacket that can be worn every day; a lot of people actually buy them for walking the dog, etc. because they're very lightweight and practical. The triple zip function is an added feature that keeps you just that little bit warmer. The low cost of these jackets for such a well known brand is also a bonus. We've definitely got to add a Down jacket into this list seeing as we have quite a few at the moment. Brands such as EA7, Maison Scotch, Barbour and Duvetica have all brought out a range of Down filled coats this season. They may be the most costly out of the range but that is because they're even warmer than the usual stuffed coat. The EA7 coat is stuffed with 90% White Duck Down and 10% White Duck Feather which is the best formation of padding in a coat when it comes to softness, warmth and being lightweight. Cost wise, the Down is rarer than the feather and the bird will only have the smallest amount of Down which means its harder to get hold of. If you don't believe just how warm a Down coat is, you really need to try one and see how insulting they are. The EA7 brand is Emporio Armani's sportier, more casual designer brand. Bang on trend with the fur collar and cuffs which can actually be tucked into the collar for a shorter fur detail with an elasticated belt that allows the waist to be fitted. This coat also comes in black but I do like the white for a more Christmassy feel. EA7 Emporio Armani Mountain Puffy Down Jacket With Fur Collar
