The Soundtrack To Your Weekend

15th August 2013 | Posted in Music

Heatwaves gone. Suns gone. Mood's crap, and the weather's crapper. BUT WAIT. Forget all that misery, right now. Stop it. It's time to put the week behind us, and move forwards into the glorious weekend!

To help us (and you) get over this lovely weather we're having, we've chucked together a pretty damn retro tracklist, crammed full to the brim with old school Ibiza classics. Bang them on, turn them up, and let us take you to the white isle (sort of. Flights/actual visitation of Ibiza not included, but it's all in good spirit).

Iio-Rapture

Right, let's start as we mean to go on shall we? If you don't recognise this, then you need to leave. Immediately. Released in 2001 (CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?!), this was actually put together by a pair of Americans, which is a pretty big feat on its own. Not much more to add to that really is there? Other than what a flippin' good start.

The Original- I Love You Baby

Here's a funky ass blast from the past. All the way from 1994, this song's got more nostalgia than Marty McFly and Doc coasting round in the DeLorean. There's no shame in loving an absolute classic. Stop trying to look cool and complain that this isn't good, unless it's been remixed by Calvin Harris, and embrace this track for what it is- an absolute outright classic belter.

Sonique- It Feels So Good

It's a bit annoying this. Everyone knows these songs like they know their mum's cousin. Kind of vaguely until you see their face. That's a ridiculous analogy, but sadly it's staying. Well, this is a tune. The video's a bit weird though, Sonique's shaved her head and works in a cafe flipping eggs. She then walks down the street pulling off some funky 90's shapes in a crazy montage, before ending up in some weird club. Wow. The 90's really were just ridiculous weren't they?

Modjo-Lady (Hear me tonight)

This is the start of a bit of a funky section, so yano. Enjoy it. We are. WOOO.

Spiller feat. Sophie Ellis Bexter- Groovejet If This Ain't Love

Catchyyy. You forgot about this one didn't you? It's ok, so did we. Then we watched the video and also remembered how scary Sophie Ellis Bexter's jaw is. And how stupidly long her name is. Mind you, all things considered. A great track.

Robert Miles-Children

You know what this is. Enough said.

Ayla-Ayla (DJ Taucher Remix)

We love this song, for a fair few reasons. One: Once you get round the pretty long winded build up, it's just euphoric as it gets. Two: It's amazing. Three: It reminds us of Kevin and Perry Go Large (Can I have a jam sandwich Mrs Pattison?).

Needin' U-David Morales presents The Face

NEEEEEEDIN' YOU!!! That about sums this up. Cracking track.

Sash!-Encore Un Fois

Get round the whole French thing, and it's a classic. None of that updated fancy pants stuff here, this is the original. Hell Yeahh.

Joey Negro-Must Be The Music

You'll recognise this soon as the whole trumpet situation comes into play. It's just one of those 'wish I was on the beach and it was bloody sunny' kind of songs. Depressing if you're sat in a flat in Dalston, it's raining, and you've got a night of Hollyoaks Omnibus on the agenda. Wowzers.

Fragma-Toca's Miracle

YESSS. Just Yes. This takes no introduction. You know what it is as soon as you hear that almost creepy whispering of 'Toca Me'. Freakyyy.

Tiesto-Adagio For Strings

No Ibiza playlist would be complete without a drop from Tiesto. He's a bit of a legend in his own right, really. We love this because unlike a load of other tunes, it doesn't take a lifetime to build into something that goes beyond a distant thud. So that's a bonus. The other bonus being that again, it reminds us of Kevin and Perry. Which is great, because we love that film. It's just top notch. I'm Going to have to watch it now I've been chirping on about it so much. Ah well. Needs must.

Cafe Del Mar-Energy 52

This probably sums this whole playlist up really. It has to be one of the ultimate Ibiza tunes? Surely?

Eric Prydz-Call On Me

Here's one for the LADSLADSLADS, but also a great excuse for the girls to suddenly act like they're leotard clad and thrusting around the room like some kind of pelvic-ally possessed dancer. Basically everybody wins.

This could go on all night, but sadly we have to draw a line somewhere- and if you can't stop at a video of women prancing around a mirrored room, then hey. Where will it all end? Here. That's where. Until next week. Be good.
