The Converse Culture

19th July 2013 | Posted in Womens & Footwear by H. Simpson
Converse have made a massive comeback in the last couple of years. Gone are the images of American High school kids wearing them in films, now you see everyone wearing them! Today, Converse can be bought in an array of colours, patterns, designs and can even be customised to personalise them yourself. Converse have even teamed up with Missoni to recreate their past renowned zigzag designs onto pairs of Converse. I admit, when there is a mass trend of people all rushing to buy the same thing, it lasts around a year and then its naff to wear, but Converse have stuck around. Maybe they're going to be a staple wardrobe item for many years to come! This is the pair that I have. They are a standard navy and I can put them with most outfits. If i want to wear jeans, I roll them up slightly. I am sometimes a 5 and sometimes a 6 in shoes so mine are a size 5.5 and they are quite spacious. I'm intending to wear mine to the Electric Daisy Carnival this weekend as the weather is set to be a heatwave once again. I plan to wear mine with a pair of denim shorts, vest top and crocheted waistcoat.

This pair really stand out because she is wearing all black. See how she can totally transform the whole standard of the outfit by what shoes she is wearing. If she was wearing heels, she'd be dressed up to go to a bar but by adding Converse, she has made the outfit casual and fun and a more laid back feel.

I have added a bright coloured pair of Converse into the equation as there aren't just dull colours to choose from. These can add a pop of colour to your outfit. I'd wear these with a black outfit to ensure that they stand out as shown above. Hi tops are another way of wearing Converse in a more quirky sort of way. I admit, not everyone can pull these off and you do have to wear the right outfit with them. For a very 'shabby chic' look, some celebrities have been seen wearing theirs with a long floaty dress.

When wearing Hi Tops, I don't usually wear jeans with them. Instead I like the top of the ankles to be shown therefore by wearing shorts, etc. Below is a good example of what I'd do if it was cold; roll up the leggings so that the shin is shown.

These are another different way of wearing Converse without having to be 'quirky'. They are much less chunkier and heavier and are less 'tomboyish'. They remind me of a light tennis shoe or what Baby wore in Dirty Dancing! They have a skinny sole and are a more feminine version of the classic that would be suited to a nice light Summer dress.

Converse have been seen on the likes of many a celebrity. Rihanna wears Converse with loads of outfits, whether it be a tight midi skirt, floaty pretty one or skinny jeans. Then there's Willow Smith who went too far at an awards doo and wore pink Converse as high as her waist and were made into trousers! (Wierd)
