We're about to take you beyond the threshold of simple tie knots; going way past a half Windsor, miles ahead of a prat knot and deep into the realms of sartorial accessory exotica.

Know your knots

We start on the left, with the Eldridge knot, a crazy concoction of overlaps with a sharp 60's feel, giving you a look with more distinction than Don Draper's tailoring cupboard.

This knot is very striking, mainly due to it's width, so make sure you dress it with a wide collared shirt to allow for the extra bulk around your top button.

Next up, it's the Trinity knot on the right, a vexing, swirling shape that carries on the 60's styling from the Eldridge knot, but leaves the sharp suited, quick talker at home, and brings out the fun loving smart weekend dresser. This knot then, is perfect for any formal occasion you might have outside of office hours.

Again, this style will give you a wider knot than you might be used to, so try it with a shirt with a wide collar opening, such as a penny or wedge collar.

The right shoe for the job

The title says it all. Make sure that the shoe you go for is up to the job- this includes both comfort and style. There's no point in wearing a pair of shoes that look good, but you can't walk in, is there?

Dressing for a sharp look

If you're wearing a standard tapered fit 2 or 3 button fastened suit, you'll have a well tailored, sharp silhouette. Make sure your shoes match this and go for a style with slight point; but don't take it too far- no one wants to go out in a pair of winkle pickers.

Keeping it classic

Colour myths

Shoe colours always have, and always will divide opinion, however, if you stick to this golden rule, you can't go too far wrong: Nothing will ever be as smart as a pair of well polished black shoes. As far as anything else goes, it can be case of mix and match. Try different colours with your outfit. Go for tan with a light grey, try a dark brown with a navy. Remember as well, you will get more wear out of a tan or brown shoe by wearing them more casually with indigo denim.

What is raw denim?

Raw denim is denim in its purest form. The denim hasn't been washed or treated since it's first and only indigo dying process-which is why on it's first few wears, it feels rigid and rough. The raw, basic nature of the material means that you essentially have a living material on your hands, that is highly susceptible to change. You will find over time that the indigo on your raw jeans will fade, creating features on your jeans that are completely unique to you and how you wear your raw denims. For example, you might find that you'll have an outline of your phone where you've kept it in your pocket-or a light section on your backside where you've been sat on your chair at the office all day. Die hard denim heads have even been known to sleep in their raw jeans! Ultimately, raw denim is your chance to create a pair of completely unique jeans- and tell your life story through the denim you wear everyday.

How do I develop features on my raw jeans?

The key to developing a truly unique pair of raw denims is patience. Miracles don't happen over night-and if someone tells you that their raw denims have changed that quickly, then they're probably lying. You should stop talking to them immediately and continue being a patient soul. When you first get your pair of raw's, you'll feel a little bit like you're wearing cardboard trousers. This is normal, and you'll find that they will soften and ease off after a day or two's wear. Raw denim needs breaking in (a bit like a good pair of brogues), before they become comfy enough to be the favourite pair in your wardrobe. And they will be your favourites-because to get the best results, you should wear your raw jeans day in, day out, none stop for at least 6 months. (We'll answer your "what about the smell?!" question later). Make sure that you do not change your day to day activities because of your jeans-no matter how much you love them. Raw denim is incredibly tough, thanks to the fact it's not been messed about with dyes and fades. With this in mind, you can go crazy. Wear them to mow the lawn, wear them to paint the spare room, wear them to walk the dog in-you can not do enough in them, or wear them for too long. The more you do, the better your characteristics will be after your first wash:

Now, about that smell…

If you've decided to be a die hard raw denim head, and have been putting off washing your raw jeans for some time, you may start to notice a nice, flavoursome scent flowing from your beloved jeans. If this is the case, well done! It's good to know that you've been putting some serious man hours into wearing your jeans. So what to do about that aroma… The first thing to point out here is that this is not an excuse to prematurely wash your jeans. Absolutely not. There are ways around this without affecting the natural changing process of your denims:

• Hang them on the line- let Mother nature do the work and fingers crossed the wind will whisk the scent away after a few hours.
• Give them the deep freeze-Yep. You heard. Leave them in your freezer over night and thaw them out the next day. The freezing temperatures kill the bacteria creating the smells, leaving you fresh and free of odours.
• Get your hands on some spray- Try fabric cleaners if you've got areas that need some concentrated TLC. This could be viewed as cheating in some peoples eyes-but if needs must.
• Fight through it- Ignore the smell and be grateful that people won't want to sit next to you on the train... you'll get to wash them soon anyway.

Six months later…

Congratulations. You made it. Six months heavy wear and you can finally wash your raw denims. But wait- don't go thinking you can just chuck them in the wash with the rest of your wardrobe. Remember that this denim has never been washed-so the colour is going to run and bleed, resulting a big loss of colour. You've got a few choices on how you wash your jeans, from the completely normal to the down right extreme:

• Chuck them in the washing machine-Use next to no wash powder and was them inside out (according to your jeans care instructions). Easy.
• Get them in the bath-Fill your bath with enough warm water to submerge your jeans. Use a little wash powder and get some weights to keep them down. Rotate them occasionally, but make sure that they don't leave the water for around an hour.
• Go for a dip...in the sea-Not joking. The salt in the sea water can help lock some of the indigo in- plus you can get the added benefit of a roll in the sand before hand to give your denims even more of a characteristic. Crazy, but what a story!

An original design from the man that bought the world the infamous G-Star Elwood jean, the A-Crotch was one of the first jeans to use a tapered fit, when the leg gets narrower from the thigh to the ankle.

The first thing to consider is how much pattern you're wanting to work into your look-are you thinking of having a touch with t-shirt details? Or are you going to go the whole hog with a full camo jacket? One thing to remember- going for the latter will do anything but help you blend in.

We've put together a braver outfit- but it's something we reckon anyone could pull off.

Lacoste continue their annual Christmas holidays capsule collection with a new range designed by the Campanas brothers: Lacoste + Campanas.

Famed for their innovative and inspiring furniture designs, Sao Paulo based designers Fernando and Humberto have added a fresh twist to the classic Lacoste L.1212 polo shirt. Campanas + Lacoste gives the best of both worlds-classic and timeless design, courtesy of the makers of the worlds first polo shirt, as well as trendy and striking, thanks to the directional design of the Campanas brothers.

Whilst experimenting how to use different materials for upholstery, the Campanas brothers developed their own iconic design. They created the affect of various materials being rolled together to decorate furniture. The effect was nicknamed 'Sushi' due to its resemblance to the food. This instantly recognisable pattern has since become the trademark of the Campanas design.

Presented in a Lacoste + Campanas bag,the Campana trademark design has been transferred to the Lacoste polo, with the famous croc forming the shape of the sushi pattern. Whether in black or white, the uniform pattern is both striking, different and hugely desirable to any Lacoste lover.

Party season is upon us, so with cringe worthy moments with that woman from the other side of the office looming just around the corner, it's time to start thinking about the most important thing on everyone's Christmas list this year: being the number one best dressed chap in the office.

So how are you planning on going about your wardrobe efforts for the years most anticipated work event? If you're feeling a touch perplexed, or just looking for a bit of inspiration to help you get the ball rolling, allow us to show you a few beautifully balanced outfits to make sure you win the style stakes hands down.

We've gone on the assumption that everyone wants to make the effort for the infamous Christmas do-so this shows in a majority of the outfits. Let's face it, you're probably not just heading down to your local for a pint and a bag of smoky bacon, so a shirt and jeans just won't cut the mustard this year.

Look one: Crisp shirting and luxurious blazers

This outfit draws on traditional tailoring styles and values. The crisp white Religion shirt has hidden buttons, keeping it smart and clean. Look two: Classic roll neck style with blazer heritage

Another classic look that relies on the quality of its tailoring elements, this outfit comes courtesy of Hugo Boss. Once a forgotten style, the roll neck is enjoying a return to form, fast becoming a staple layer for the sartorially savvy gent. We've linked the grey trim on the roll neck with the grey in the herringbone blazer. The contrast in textures from the top to the blazer give this look a feel of elegance, whilst the cut of the blazer is quite frankly, hard to beat.

Look three: Bow ties, coloured shirts and your Granddads cardigan

If you choose to follow some of our previous advice of dressing like your old geography teacher to master a trendy style this winter, then look no further than this outfit. Geek chic is turned on its head and given a new lease of life. Started off with a pale blue Scotch & Soda shirt, which features navy cord elbow patches, we've chosen to go with a navy Ralph Lauren cardigan. However, this shirt will go with pretty much any colour (we like to make things nice and easy for you), so don't be afraid to go for something different. The cardigan its self has dual pockets (for keeping chalk in, obviously), and brown suede elbow patches for the ultimate in retro fashion. Finally, we've finished this look with a grey mix Scotch & Soda bowtie. Don't worry, it's pre tied and dead easy to put on, so you won't have to start getting ready a week early just to be on time.

Look four: Sharp cut blazers, patterned knitwear and simple shirting

Our final outfit continues the theme of traditional style through tailoring. The base layer of this outfit, a plain white Gant Oxford shirt allows for colour to be built on top of it. The neck line also gives room for a tie or bow tie-so don't be afraid to try adding one into the mix. The jumper, by J Lindeberg, provides the detail and makes the outfit a touch more eye catching, with an in fashion polka dot pattern matching up with the white shirt. A lower neck also shows the shirt off, and gives a bit of room for that tie you're thinking about venturing into. This look is finished off with a slim cut blazer by Remus. The linen mix fabric gives it a great texture and makes it stand apart from the knit, whilst the single button fastening gives it a typically trendy slim silhouette. No man should be without a navy blazer, as they go with pretty much anything, so you're sure to get plenty of wear out of this away from your evening of Christmas 'socialising'.

It's ok, we understand. If your still struggling to find inspiration, simply follow these simple rules and you should master a smart style easily:

• Dress for the right party. There's no point in wearing a dress scarf and loafers if your boss has decided to cut the party budget and take you all down the pub for a shandy.
• You can't go wrong with plain white shirts. Whether they're crisp and clean, or more wearable, they smarten up any look.
• Blazers are key to a sartorial look if you don't want to wear a suit. Thanks to being cut shorter than suit jackets, they work a lot better as an option with trousers or chinos.
• Jeans only applies to a smart-casual event, and even then it's a risky business. Go for a trouser, or chino. If you are at the liberty of wearing jeans, make sure they’re a real dark indigo.
• Be sure to accessorise- but not too much. A watch is perfect. A watch, three bracelets and 5 festival bands is not. Get rid of any tat you've been walking round with on your wrist and take it nice and simple. Make sure you match metals per hand too. Don't wear a gold watch if you've got a silver ring on.
• Polish your shoes. You'll be surprised how many people will look at them, so make sure they look their best.
